e recognize becoming a coach for the first time can be a bit intimidating. Don't worry though, we are here to help make your transition from spectator to coach a seamless one!
WHAT POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
There are a variety of opportunities available on each team which are outlined below.
HEAD COACH:
Head coaches are the primary person responsible for the team. Duties include the following:
- Be a role model for your team and spectators.
- Ensuring all children and youth get fair and equal play.
- Introducing yourself and your coaching staff to players and parents before the season begins via email (template provided).
- Recruiting volunteers (usually other parents) to help run practices, score keeping, snack schedules, etc.
- Putting together practice plans (templates and resources provided).
- Preparing game day line ups.
- Following all Baseball Canada and Ontario Baseball Association rules are followed including tracking pitch counts, when applicable.
- Following all SMBA rules, by-laws, and constitution.
- Running warm ups prior to games (all children and coaches should be at the field at least 30 minutes before scheduled games).
- Working with other coaches if affiliating players to your team. Note: Players must get approval from their head coach any time they play a game with another team. Affiliates are not permitted to miss games from their regular season to play up with another team.

ASSISTANT COACH AND OR TRAINER:
- Be a role model for your team and spectators.
- Assisting coaches with their duties.
- Prerequisites: A list of requirements can be found on the SMBA Volunteer Disclosure Form.
MANAGER:
- Be a role model for your team and spectators.
- Pick up equipment, uniforms and distribute them to players.
- Working with the division convenor to book extra field time for practices, if time is available.
- Managing your SportsHeadz team app and ensuring parents and coaches add in their availability.
- Score keeping or finding a volunteer to keep score.
- Managing snack rotations, if applicable to your team.
