Beginning with the 2025 baseball season, Sudbury Minor Baseball Association is proud to rename its annual Father’s Day weekend house league tournament in honour of Jim Gibbons.
For over 20 years, Jim was a devoted and passionate contributor to the Sudbury baseball community. While his most cherished role was that of a father—his three sons collectively played 45 seasons in Sudbury Minor Baseball—Jim also gave countless hours to enrich the experience of young athletes in our community. He served as a coach, manager, director, and ultimately as executive director, always working to ensure that every child had the best possible experience on and off the field.
A generation of Sudbury ball players benefited from Jim’s dedication, leadership, and love for the game. His impact is woven into the fabric of our baseball community.
Jim passed away in April 2024, and SMBA is honoured to carry his legacy forward by naming this tournament after him—a lasting tribute that will continue to inspire future generations of Sudbury ball players.
