11U Shamrocks Sweep Round Robin Play in Vaughan
11U Shamrocks were in Vaughan for an 11U Select Tournament on July 25-27, sweeping their division in round robin play but dropped a tough loss in the quarter finals on Sunday morning. 

Game #1 -  Shamrocks at Richmond Hill Phoenix

After dropping one run in the bottom of the 1st, the Shamrocks jumped into the lead in the top of the second when Beckett Deforge doubled, scoring one run, Huxley Leclair tripled, scoring two runs, and Preston Rickard grounded out, scoring one run.

The Shamrocks added one run in the third. Dante G singled to center field on a 3-0 count, making the score 5-1. 
Richmond Hill Phoenix tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a double and an error.

The Shamrocks took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Ava Tonnos grounded out, the Shamrocks scored on a passed ball, Blake Lamarche walked, and Preston Rickard singled to center field, each scoring one run.
 
Jack Taylor led things off on the mound for the Shamrocks. The pitcher gave up one hit and two runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking two. Beckett Deforge entered in relief in the bottom of the 3rd to keep the starting pitcher's pitch count to one day rest and be available for Sunday. Preston Rickard pitched one inning of zero-run ball for the Shamrocks to close the game. The righty surrendered zero hits, striking out three and walking none.

Huxley Leclair and Dante Grottoli each collected two hits for the Shamrocks. Huxley Leclair and Preston Rickard each drove in two runs for the Shamrocks. The Shamrocks had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Karson Dempster and Blake Lamarche led the team with two bases on balls each. Karson Dempster, Blake Lamarche, and Luke Pavacic each stole multiple bases for the Shamrocks, with a team total of nine stolen bases in the game.

Leaside Leafs got on the board in the first inning after a passed ball scored two runs.
 
The Shamrocks jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first when Ava Tonnos drew a walk, scoring one run, Beckett Deforge drew a walk, scoring one run, and Huxley Leclair doubled, scoring one run.

Karson Dempster stepped on the mound first for the Shamrocks. The righty gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking two. Ava Tonnos entered the game in relief in the in the 5th inning with one away, walking one and striking out two to end the inning surrendering zero runs. Preston Rickard tossed one inning of scoreless ball for the Shamrocks to close the game. The right-handed pitcher allowed one hit, striking out two and walking none.

Huxley Leclair, the number eight hitter for the Shamrocks, led the way with three runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-2 on the day.

The Shamrocks opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to three singles. The Shamrocks first got on the board when Karson Dempster singled, scoring one run.

The Shamrocks added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Ava Tonnos tripled down the right field line, Beckett Deforge singled to the right side of the infield, Emmet McAvoy singled to the right side of the infield, and the Shamrocks scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.

The Shamrocks added two runs in the third after Jack Taylor doubled down the left field line. Blake Lamarche stole home in the top of the 4th to end the inning on a mercy.

Emmet McAvoy began the game for the Shamrocks. The hurler surrendered one hit and four runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out four and walking six. Ava Tonnos appeared in relief for the Shamrocks allowing one hit, walking four, and surrendering only one run. 

The Shamrocks collected 14 hits in the game. Jack Taylor led the Shamrocks with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-2 on the day. Jack Taylor, Dante Grottoli, Ava Tonnos, and Beckett Deforge each collected two hits for the Shamrocks. Emmet McAvoy stole three bases. The Shamrocks worked the count all day, collecting six walks.

The game ended in the top of the 5th inning after the umps called an 8-run maximum (last) open inning when Emmett McAvoy stole home to put the Shamrocks out of reach with a score of 14-5.

After giving up two runs in the top of the 1st, the Shamrocks tied the game up in the bottom of the second thanks to a double and a passed ball steal of 3rd by Huxley Leclair, a walk and steal by Ava Tonnos, and a single Blake Lamarche.

Dante Grottoli led things off on the hill for the Shamrocks. The starting pitcher threw 75 pitches (daily maximum), giving up four hits and five runs over four innings, striking out five and walking four. Jack Taylor entered the game in relief in the 5th inning, giving up 5 hits and 5 earned runs, striking out 5 batters. 

After three games of round robin play with strong bats, the Shamrocks were unable to keep the hot bats on Sunday, being eliminated in the quarter finals 11-3.
